The title of this book intrigued me – Extraordinary: The Life You’re Meant to Live by John Bevere.
I’ve thought at times that as Christians we are not living the joyful, powerful life we are called to. So perhaps this book would shine some light on the reasons why.
However, I was disappointed.
It took me 4 attempts to get started reading it…and I really had to struggle to keep reading.
While I appreciated some of the insights Bevere provided–his pointing out of some of the specific words used in the scriptures and their definitions, especially–I felt like I was being judged through much of the book.
Part of the problem I had was in format. There were lots of phrases in italics and this overuse was distracting from the points he was trying to make.
I also felt that he could have made his point in must less than 122 pages. It could also have been done without coming across as a judge of those who do not live up to his expectations of Christian living.
While I had hopes for some significant insights in this book, I found it anything but extraordinary–and felt that in many ways it was a waste of my time.
