A book that was on the “new display” table at the local library caught my attention with the title The Art of Possibility: Transforming Professional and Personal Life”.

I became even more intrigued when I looked at the biographical blurb on the husband-and-wife authors (Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander and discovered that she is a family therapist / landscape painter, while he is conductor of the Boston Philharmonic.

It’s a somewhat challenging read, but well worth it. It’s not a simple “self-help” book–but examples of and practice in looking at my personal life in new ways…the only thing I can really change.

The authors offer twelve affirmations, along with lots of examples drawn from their own experiences. For me the most meaningful were the ones drawn from Mr. Zander’s musical experiences.

I saw a lot of myself in his book–sometimes in positive ways, but quite frequently I saw places I can (and need to) make changes in order to reduce some of my own stress as well as have a positive impact on my workplace and coworkers.

It will be interesting to see how well I can focus on putting it into practice!
